Abstract
290,506. Burn, G. A. Oct. 22, 1927. Addition to 176,290. Derricks.-Relates to slueing gear of the type comprising a quadrant M on the derrick heel engaged by a worm L driven through gear wheels and shafting from the winch W. The quadrant and worm drive are fitted on the mast jaws, the quadrant form ing part of the plate to which the derrick heel is bolted. The gear can be fitted to existing winches and may be disconnected to permit slueing by guy ropes in emergency. A wheel A on the crank shaft of the winch drives a fore-and-aft countershaft C through bevelgearing, and on operating a clutch lever E the shaft C drives shafts G, H and worm L to slue the derrick. The ends of the quadrant Mare without teeth so that the worm runs out of gear if the winch is allowed to run on. The derrick is swung to and fro as required, whilst hoisting and lowering, by manipulating the lever E.
