Abstract

328,352. Lovett, W. J. Feb. 7, 1929. Hatches.-Rigid hatch covers are raised and lowered about an axis parallel to one edge by means of levers 3 pivoted on a pin 4 and operated by blocks 7 sliding on screws 8 rotated by a worm shaft 12 which is driven by a suitable motor (not shown) through shafting and clutches. The raising gear may be duplicated on the opposite side of the hatch as shown in dotted lines, the pivot pin 4 being removable. The screw gearing may be replaced by rope tackle as shown in Fig. 3, utilizing sets of sheaves 28a, 28b on the hatch and on the levers 3 respectively, the falls 25, 26 being led to one or more worm-driven drums, or to suitable winches. In a further modification (not shown) the levers 3 are operated by links led to screw and nut gear arranged along the sides' of the hatch parallel to the levers 3.
