Abstract

631,647. Jib cranes. HYLAND, Ltd., and CLARK, H. R. Nov. 26, 1947, No. 31262. [Class 78 (iv)] A hydraulically operated crane has a remote pump or pumps which supply fluid under pressure to a hydraulically driven winch for the lifting rope and to a hydraulically operated sluicing motor. As shown a platform 6 is supported on a circular track 7 on a fixed housing 8 to rotate with a vertical pillar 1 mounted on a footstep bearing 2 and provided with a rotary oil coupling 3. Pressure fluid from a remote pump or pumps is led by pipes 4 to the coupling 3, through passages in the pillar 1 and through pipes 5 to a slucing motor 11 and to a hydraulically operated winch 19. The slucing motor 11 is controlled by manually operated valves on the platform 6 and carries a pinion 10 meshing with a fixed internally toothed ring gear. Brake bands 14 pivoted at 15 to the platform 6 are hydraulically operated through a linkage 16 to grip the outer surface of the fixed ring gear when the motor 11 is not operated, so holding the platform 6 stationary. A similar brake is provided to lock the winch 19 when required. The winding rope 21 passes from the winch 19 over a pulley 22 at the top of the central pillar 1 to the pulley (not shown) at the end of the jib 23 which is stayed by means of a rope or rod 26.
