Abstract

135,880. Clayden, A. Aug, 28, 1918. Jib cranes.-The winding-drum shaft of a portable hoist for sack-lifting &c. is mounted eccentrically in bearings which are turned to put the friction driving-gear out of action by a counterweighted rod K, Fig. 1, when the control rope S is released either by the operator or by a sack striking the pivoted bar N. The rope S is attached to the free end of the bar N, and to this end is connected by a spring one end of a rope Q<3> which controls the locking-device for the swinging jib E. A corrugated block Q<1>, Fig. 3, slidably mounted on the jib E, is normally forced away from a corrugated wheel Q<9> fixed to the standard D, by a spring Q2, but is forced into engagement by the movement of the block p' which occurs when the rope Q<3> is pulled down by a pull on the free end of the rope S. The jib is composed of pairs of bars E, E<2>, E<3>, E<7>. An horizontal pulley P<5> is mounted on the standard level with the drums, for use as a fair-lead when the apparatus is used for hauling. The winding-gear comprises a pair of drums which can work conjointly or separately. Each drum is free on the shaft and carries one member of a friction or positive clutch, the other member of which is secured to the shaft. The winding-gear may be driven by hand, by the portable engine of a thrashing-set, or by a motor mounted on the platform A.
