Electric plant.-Slow hook-motions of crane or other hoisting gear operated by an alternating- current motor are obtained, when desired, 'by means of a centrifugal brake brought into operation by a solenoid. The motor F drives the hoisting gear J and also one member 0 of a friction clutch, the other member K being geared to a centrifugal brake N. Normally, when the load tends to drive the motor as in lowering, the motor accelerates to its synchronous speed. When a slower lowering speed is required the clutch, K, 0 is closed by a solenoid P and the centrifugal brake comes into action to slow down the motor.
