Abstract
633,213. Hoisting-apparatus. HAMMOND & CHAMPNESS, Ltd., and HUNTER, D. G. Dec. 1, 1947, No. 31693. [Class 78 (v)] [Also in Groups XXVI and XXXIV] In an electric lift or hoist a fly-wheel adapted to be driven from any suitable point in the driving gear, the direction of rotation of the flywheel being constant relative to that of the driving member, and a friction clutch, whereby the drive to the fly-wheel may be interrupted so that energy may be transferred from the driving member to the fly-wheel, but not in the reverse direction. The fly-wheel 1 is mounted on a casting 2 keyed on a fixed shaft 3. A clutch 6 is slidably mounted on the fly-wheel by pins 16 and has friction linings 7 and 15 which engage either a driving pulley 8 adjustably mounted on the shaft 3 or the casting 2. An induction coil is mounted on the casting 2 and a disc 20 is mounted on the pins 16 moving against a spring 18. If the lift should stop short of a floor, the motor is restarted the coil is energized the disc 20 is attracted and causes the clutch to move to the right to engage the fly-wheel with the driving pulley so that the lift moves at a reduced speed. Alternatively, to retard the speed, as the lift approaches the floor, the motor is cut out and the fly-wheel is clutched in. The fly-wheel is declutched just before the main brake is applied. On de-energizing the coil the clutch is moved to the left and brakes the fly-wheel. To prevent over-speeding a plunger 27 is located to the rim of the fly-wheel which trips a contact to break the motor control circuit.
