Abstract

932,627. Control of A.C. motors. EXPRESS LIFT CO. Ltd. May 17, 1962 [May 26, 1961], No. 19090/61. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (3). In a lift drive mechanism having a main motor and an auxiliary " levelling" motor engageable by clutch, as described in Specification 586,449, the main motor has two speeds, and is preferably an A.C. pole-changing motor. At the initiation of a stopping operation the motor is switched to low speed, so acting as a brake, and after a time or travel delay this motor is de-energized and the clutch engaged (by solenoid released spring) so that the auxiliary motor can be used for levelling, the lift being accurately stopped by a mechanical brake. The lift may also be stopped by the mechanical brake before the levelling motor is engaged. Each motor drives a worm gear through V belts but it is stated that the worm shaft could be driven directly. The auxiliary motor may be D.C. and battery powered, and usable as an emergency drive.
