194,270. Soc. des Moteurs Salmson (SystÞme Canton-UnnÚ). March 1, 1922, [Convention date]. Universal joints. -In Hooke's joints, the parts are made interchangeable and easily assembled by providing identical arms on the two shaft members and forming them with open-ended slots, in each of which is rigidly secured by a single bolt a bearing block receiving the trunnions of a ring-shaped intermediate member. Trunnions B are rigidly secured to or forged integrally with the annular member A and are received in plain or ball bearings D. The bearings D are secured by bolts F in recesses E, E' milled in the similar arms C, C<1>. The grip of the bolts F takes up any slackness due to inaccurate machining. On removing the bolts F, the bearings D can be dismantled radially without axial movement of the shaft members.
