362,013. Resilient couplings. ROYCE, SIR F. H., Nightingale Road, Derby. Sept. 10, 1930, No. 27043. [Class 80 (ii).] A resilient shaftcoupling which per. mits a slight misalignment comprises a number of packs d of radial leaf springs clamped at each end between axial lugs c<1>, c<2> on a flange c integral with an intermediate driven shaft b<2>, and driven through their centres by axial lugs g<4> on a ring g<1> bolted to a driving flange g by bolts g<2>. To fix the point of intersection of the axes, a spherical sleeve i<1> on the driving shaft i engages a complementary split shell f bolted to the driven flange c and having a flange f to retain the inner spring ends. The springs are located radially and axially on the flange c by a peripheral ring e and strips of metal e<2> which are bolted to the flange and also retain the ring e. The flange c has apertures h to accommodate the heads of the bolts g<2>. The intermediate shaft b<2> drives a pinion b<1> through interengaging splines which permit of the pinion and shaft being misaligned or out of parallel. The driving shaft i is driven by an engine crank shaft b and the final driven shaft b<5> may be an air-screw shaft. The crank shaft b is carried in plain bearings and the pinion b<1> in roller bearings, the coupling serving to accommodate unequal wear in the bearings.
