597,182. Securing universal-joint forks on shafts. GLAENZER SPICER SOC. ANON. July 21, 1945, No. 18746. Convention date, June 13, 1944. [Class 80(ii)] One element 12 of a universal joint is connected to a driving shaft 17 by splines 16 on the shaft 17 and on the element 12. Axial movement of the element 12 is prevented in one direction by a circlip 19 on the shaft end engaging a shoulder on the element 12. and in the other direction by a nut 33 on the element pressing a sleeve 29 and inner race rings 21 against a shoulder 18 on the shaft 17. The nut 33 may be locked by a washer 34 having tabs 35 bent over to engage serrations in the nut.
