Abstract
780,057. Slipping clutches. SCHROTER, K. Nov. 22, 1955 [March 23, 1955], No. 33452/55. Class 80 (2). A slipping clutch comprises balls or rollers 16 guided in holes in the radial flange 12 of one member 11 and pressed axially into cam recesses in the other member 9 by plate springs 8, the member 9 being journalled and axially supported on the member 11 by a ball-bearing 10. The member 11 is mounted on the splined end of a shaft 17, while the member 9 is secured to one member 15 of a Hooke's joint. The springs 8 engage against an adjustable abutment. This latter may be formed by a flange on the shaft 17, the member 11 being axially positioned on the shaft by an adjustable axial screw bolt. As shown, the abutment is provided by a sleeve 1 adjustably threaded on the member 11. The member 11 is locked on the shaft 17 by a spring-loaded cross-pin 2 passing through the sleeve 1 and member 11 and engaging an annular groove 18 on the shaft. The pin 2 has a cut-away part so that, by displacing the pin against the action of its spring 3, the member 11 is freed and may be slid off the shaft. A second cross-pin 5 locking the sleeve 1 to the member 11 is secured by a wire 6 and lead seal 7, which latter may be stamped to indicate the limiting torque corresponding to the adjustment. An elastic oil-resisting protective cap may be arranged between the spring 8 and the member 9 around the flange 12. The cam recesses in the member 9 may be shallow on one side, so as to give a one-way drive.
