Dust-excluding casings.-A packing comprising a flexible or articulated diaphragm or disc 6 is slidably mounted between the bearing 7 of the driving-wheel shaft 4 and a casing 1 secured to the engine frame 2 and surrounding the connecting-rod and parts 3, and has one or more annular packing-abutments. The diaphragm may be fixed to the shaft 4 or bearing 7 or to the casing 1, and is provided on one or both sides with one or more rings 10 bearing against a disc or discs 12, 13 secured to the casing or to the shaft or its bearing respectively. When the casing 1 acts as a reservoir for lubricant, it may have a projecting part 11 extending above the level of the oil. Specification 138,617 is referred to.
