Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-Packing for a revolving shaft, especially applicable for a rotary pump comprises a white-metal cone 2 made in halves feathered on the shaft 1, between a cup 3 secured to the casing 4 and a cup 5 pressed axially by springs 9. The cone 2 is connected to the shaft by a. stud 11 entering a slot 13. Gutta percha or like packing 16 may be inserted in grooves in the cone 2. The cups 3, 5 may be made in halves secured together by bolts 8. Rubber packing 15 may be inserted beneath the flange of the cup 3. Lubricant may be supplied to the rubbing surfaces by lubricators 14.
