Abstract

416,854. Stuffing - box packing. AYRES, G. H., 128, Ulverley Green Road, Olton, Warwickshire. March 20, 1933, No. 8343. [Class 122 (v).] A packing for bearings comprises a pair of flexible flanged packings b supported in a metal housing c, which may consist of two end plates e riveted to a sleeve d. The packings may be pressed against the shaft by spring fingers p formed on plates o. Alternatively, garter springs or spring wire may be coiled around the flanges of the packings b or a single resilient strip may embrace both flanges. In a modification, the housing c embraces the shaft whilst the packings bear on the casing. The housing may be built up as shown in Fig. 3, the parts being secured by rivets m or by spun over ends of the sleeve h.
