Abstract
In the absorption of organic gases or vapours from gas mixtures by means of charcoal an active charcoal containing sulphur may be used, and the charcoal, whether it contains sulphur or not, is charged with sufficient water to obviate the danger of ignition. The sulphurization may be carried out by passing a mixture of hydrogen sulphide and air over the charcoal, together, it may be, with the gas mixture to be treated. In an example, a current of steam at 110 DEG C. is led through a tube containing wood charcoal until the charcoal is as hot as the steam, after which cold air is blown in and the charcoal used for absorbing benzene from a current of air saturated therewith at 15 DEG C.
