Brakes, arrangement and disposition of, and braking; relay or power apparatus.-Brake mechanism for motor vehicles of the kind described in the parent Specification in which relative movement of one part of the vehicle with respect to the braked part during braking varies the leverage of the brake connections so as to reduce the brake pressure and thus prevent locking of the wheels, is provided with means whereby the braking pressure is applied by a running part of the vehicle. The rear axle and driving shaft casings are arranged to slide with respect to the frame and carry the lever 7 which actuates the front and rear wheel brakes by connections 9 - - 12. The movement of the lever 1 with the casing of the driving shaft varies the effective length of a lever 6 by which the lever 7 is actuated. The lever 6 is connected to a band 4 having its other end connected to the pedal 1 by which the band can be engaged with a drum 2 on the shaft 3 to apply the brakes. The lever 7 may be connected only to the rear-wheel brakes. Secured to the shaft 7' of the lever 7 is an arm 13 which actuates an equalizing lever 14 connected to the rear brakes by a cable 11 and to the front brakes by a bell-crank 9 freely mounted on the shaft 7.
