Abstract

Corner joints; lids.-To guard against the unauthorised opening of a packing-case, the sides 2 of the case are extended above and below the edges of the end 1 a distance corresponding to the thickness of the lid and bottom respectively, and horizontal and vertical battens 6 are secured to the ends so as to cover the edges of the sides, bottom and lid. The bottom and lid lie flush with the surrounding edges. The lid may be further secured by screws passing through countersunk holes in the lid and into channel-shaped lugs 13, the lower ends 14 of which are driven into the ends of the box. The lid is preferably made in two parts 8, 9, hinged together, metal dowels 11 adapted to enter holes 12 in the sides of the case being provided at the edges of the parts. To allow the case to be collapsed, the ends and sides are connected together by detachable hinges located within the corners of the erected case, the hings pins being removable and provided with securing nuts.
