Abstract

649,636. Collapsable boxes. DAVIS, R. C. June 14, 1949, No. 15770. [Class 18] A crate has top and bottom tray-like closures 4, 1, which enclose the sides 3 and ends 2 when the crate is collapsed. When set up the panels forming said sides and ends respectively are positioned on and within strips 5, 6 forming flanges on the closure. Vertical battens 11 on the interior faces of the sides 3 bear against the side edge of the end members. Horizontal exterior battens 7 in the ends 2 overlie the sides and bear against the tops of the flange strips 5 on the top and bottom closures to which they are secured by bolts passing through holes 8 in the strips and battens. The same bolts are also used to secure the top and bottom closures together when the crate is collapsed. Recesses 10 are provided in the closures to prevent bolt heads projecting beyond their outer surfaces.
