Abstract
684,562. Boxes. BURROWS, M. G., and METALTREAT, Ltd. Oct. 18, 1950 [Nov. 2, 1949], No. 28047/49. Class 18 A collapsable box having separately formed bottom, sides and lid is erected by hook portions 11a on the lower edges of the sides interengaging channel 10a formed along the edges of the bottom, the sides having flanges 11b which overlap and retain the sides in position when pivoted catches 13 on the sides are moved so as to secure the flanges of the adjacent sides between the catch 13 and the flanges of their sides. The lid is also flanged so as to fit over the upper beaded edges 11d of the sides. Fastenings for securing the lid in position comprise flaps 14 hinged to the lid and provided with helically slotted bolts 17 which project through apertures in the sides to engage a wire 18. In the collapsed condition the sides pack into the underside of the bottom with the lid on top of them and the fastenings hinge round so that the bolts engage wires through apertures 10c in the bottom. The corners of the box and base are covered by reinforcing members 19 and 20. The bars carrying the flaps 14 may be shaped as handles. According to the Provisional Specification the box may comprise a wooden structure with the metal interengaging parts secured to the edges of the components.
