Abstract

653,410. Boxes. MONROE AUTO EQUIPMENT CO. March 31, 1948, No. 9159. [Class 18] [Also in Group XXX] A collapsable metal box comprises a base 10, formed from a number of channel section members which are welded or otherwise secured together, supported at the four corners by corner pieces 14 between which two opposite sides 12, 13 are pivoted, the pivot points 36 of one side 13 being a greater distance from the base than the pivot points 35 of the other side so that when the box is collapsed the remaining two sides 11 which are detachable from the base can be accommodated between the two hinged sides. The sides 11 . . . 13 are of corrugated sheet metal further reinforced by channel section members 16 extending across the sides. The detachable sides 11 are attached to the base by hook members 30 extending from the bottom of the ends and which engage either a first or second row of slots 31, 32 in the base. The top of the sides are connected by cranked pins 51 mounted on the detachable sides engaging slots 55 in the hinged sides, the slots 31, 32 and 55 being so positioned to enable the sides to be supported at an angle if so desired. Lifting eyes 60 are provided in the side walls and are reinforced by a suitably shaped bar 61. The feet of the corner pieces 14 are splayed out as at 40 to facilitate stacking when the box is collapsed.
