[Also in Group XVII] A box pallet has an inclined base 17, Fig. 1, which directs its contents to a closure-controlled opening 18 adjacent a portion of the base lower than the remainder. As illustrated the load supporting base 17 is of sheet metal and of shallow V-section as shown in Fig. 3 and is formed integrally with the side walls 20. The opening 18 is controlled by a flap 19, Fig. 6, sliding in vertical guides 22 and provided with a handle 23. A lid 24 on the pallet has upturned portions 25 which slide within inverted angle member 12 along the upper edges of the end walls 21. A member 26 filling part of each member 12 assists in guiding the lid 24 which carries at one end a flange 27, Fig. 3, adapted, when the lid is slid open, to make hinge like engagement with a member 29 on the adjacent side wall 20 so that the lid may be hinged downwardly against the side wall. A padlock (not shown) hinged to a member 31, Fig. 3, may secure the lid 24 in closed position. The members 12 are adapted to locate similarly sectioned members 11, Fig. 1, joining the legs 10 of a similar pallet stacked above. The legs 10 comprise lower portions of angle section corner posts and are reinforced below the base 14 of the pallet by further angle-section members 13. The base frame includes diagonal bracing members 14 which are stepped as shown at 15 in Fig. 3 to engage the side member 16 of the base frame to which they are welded.
