Abstract

Knock-down boxes; battens, strengthening; corner joints; lids.-The sides d, Figs. 3 and 4, of a collapsible box or packing-case are pivoted at suitable distances from the bottom a by strap hinges h, i secured to external battens b, c, f. The ends e of the case are pivoted to the bottom a by internal strap hinges k. When the ends and sides of the case have been erected, they are secured together by pivoted parts n arranged to engage slots m in cranked portions l of the straps k. The lid r is provided with external straps s having turned-up ends to engage holes in securing straps p and also having holes arranged to engage bolts q. In order to enable the parts of the case to be secured firmly in the collapsed condition, the lower part of the case is provided with straps t formed similarly to the parts p, q. The parts of the case are made of plywood or of tongued and grooved boards. In a modification, the ends e, Figs. 7 and 8, of the case are connected to the bottom a by external strap hinges u, and the ands e and sides d are secured together in their erect positions by means of hinged plates w having holes adapted to engage studs y secured to the ends e.
