Abstract

192,196. Bell, W. T., and Castle, A. S. Nov. 7, 1921. Spray burners; flame protectors; burners, attaching.-A liquid fuel burner comprises a body portion 1 and a partly conical and partly cylindrical tube 8 fitting over the body portion, the body portion being fitted with a central compressed air nipple 6 and a relatively inclined fuel nipple 7. The tube 8 is formed with radial webs 10, 12 in its cylindrical part 9 and nozzle portion 11<a> respectively. The fuel issuing under pressure from the nipple 7 is atomized by the compressed air jet and the mixture with air induced through perforations 11, 13 in the tube 8 burns at the nozzle 11<a>. The burner is suitable for heating the hot caps of semi-Diesel oil engines and external tubes or parts of other oil engine combustion chambers. The burner is attached to the engine by means of a screw stem 14 and bracket 15.
