Abstract

1924. Birmingham Small Arms Co., and Norman, G. Feb. 27, 1914. Breech actions, sliding breech - block ; trigger guards.-Consists in employing the guide-rod of the return spring of an automatic gun as a spring catch to hold the trigger guard and the magazine in place. The rod 5, which is mounted beneath the barrel 4, is capable of a slight sliding movement and is pressed rearwards by the return spring 3, which abuts against a collar 11 on the rod. The rear end of the rod, behind the collar 11, passes through lugs 7, 8 on the barrel and has a square part adapted to engage aT-slot in an upwardly projecting part 18, Figs. 1 and 3, of the trigger guard 9, and shoulders 21 adapted to engage recesses in the front of the magazine. When the rod is pressed forwards, the narrow part 19, Fig. 3, of the T-slot in the trigger guard can pass downwards over a reduced neck part 13, Figs. 1 and 4, on the rod. The trigger guard is held at the rear by a hook 15, which passes over a lug 16 on the breech-body. The magazine may be held at the rear by a spring catch 22 adapted to engage a lug 23 on the magazine.
