Abstract

3506. Mauser, P. Feb. 12. [Addition to 20,568/08.] Breech actions, sliding breech-block.-Relates to automatic small-arms of the type described in the parent Specification, in which the locking- levers b are actuated by a sliding cam-plate which is operated by a spring device released, on the discharge, by the forward swing of a pendulum weight, and consists, firstly, in dispensing with the pendulum weight and with the spring device, the forward impulse given to the cam-plate a, Fig. 5, on the recoil being sufficient to actuate the locking - levers b; secondly, in adapting for single loading; and thirdly, in providing a safety-device. When the gun is used as a single loader, the slide a is operated by means of projecting shoulders a<4>, Fig. 5, and the breech-block is held in its rearward position by a detent x, Fig. 20, similar to that described in Specification 4823/07, in connexion with a gun having a recoiling barrel. The detent x is adjusted to the position for automatic firing, or to that for single loading, by a cam-surface v<1> on the transverse spindle of an external lever v<2>. On this spindle is also a lug v<3>, Fig. 22, which, when the lever v<2> is turned forwards into the position shown in Fig. 20, engages a safety lever u and turns it into a position for locking the lever t<2> of the trigger-mechanism. The lever v<2> is held in position, corresponding to automatic firing, single-loading, or safe, by a spring detent w' which engages notches 1, 2, 3, Fig. 21, respectively.
