Abstract

24,251. Murphy, G. J. Dec. 18. Spring wheels with continuous outer resilient suspension ring.-An inner rigid rim 11 is suspended from an annular. helical spring 25 by two dished series of adjustable wire spokes 18 and by a series of adjustable tangential wire stays 28 in the central plane. The spring has a liner 26, and the coils have lugs to which the spokes are secured. Each coil of the spring is of varying cross-section, so that the annulus is closed at all points, and the whole spring is put in tension by making it initially of smaller diameter with overlapping ends and then expanding it. The inner ends of the spokes 18 are articulated to coiled spring arms 17 carried on rollers in forks 14, Fig. 4, on a metal rim 12. The stays 28 are connected to similar spring arms 45. Turn-buckles are used for adjustment.
