Abstract

7025. Owen, E. G. March 21, 1911, [Convention date]. Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and helical springs; spokes, securing and adjusting. -A rib 12, Figs. 1 and 2, on the rim is formed in its sides with grooves 13. Tubular members 15 are formed with ears through which pass set-screws 21 engaging the grooves. Helical springs 34 are arranged circumferentially between the members 15 and abutments 37 fixed to the rib. Sliding in the members 15 are spokes 8 which fit in mortises formed in bosses 7 on a metal ring around the hub, and extending into the hub. The spokes are prevented from moving further inwards by cotter-pins 9, and they are fixed by set-screws 10. Helical springs 28 are arranged radially between the rim and brackets 23 secured across the spokes.
