Abstract

4174. Doll, W. F., and McClung, L. Feb. 18. [Addition to 19,493/12.] Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and metal springs.-The wheel described in the parent Specification, consisting wholly of a a spirally-coiled strip of metal, is now formed of oppositely-coiled spiral springs arranged side by side. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2, two spiral springs B, C are secured on the hub sleeve A between lugs 17 and nuts 19. The springs are dished, and the outermost convolutions 12, 13, which are circular, are held stationary relatively to each other and a band D which may carry a tyre or be toothed &c. Preferably, a securing-means is adopted consisting of bolt 16 passing through tongues 14 stamped from the band and lying between the coils. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the two springs are parallel, and two sets of tongues 34 are provided.
