Abstract
4175. Doll, W. F., and McClung, L. Feb. 18. [Addition to 19,493/12.] Spring wheels with continuous outer rigid ring and metal springs.-The wheel or pulley hub described in the parent Specification, consisting wholly of a spirally-coiled strip of metal, is now formed of spiral, springs oppositely-coiled and arranged side by side with their outermost convolutions connected together. In the form shown in Fig. 2, two springs G. H have their inner coils secured against collars 16, 17 on the hub sleeve C by nuts 18, 19. The springs converge towards their outer coils, which are circular and secured to tongues 14 stamped from a ring B by transverse bolts 15. The outer wheel member is fixed on the ring. In the form shown in Fig. 4, the springs are parallel and the tongues are replaced by two annular flanges 140. Fig. 3 shows a form in which two oppositely-coiled springs are made from one piece of metal.
