Metallic spring bodies and cores; detachablerim attachments to wheels.-Helical springs of tubular wire are fitted at their inner ends around hollow bosses 6, Figs. 1 and 2, formed inside cylindrical sockets 5 in a rim 9 which is detachably secured by means of a ring 9' and transverse bolts to an ordinary fixed rim. The outer end of a spring is fitted around a boss on a fibre, wood, &c. block 3 secured to a cover 1. A rod fixed to the block passes through an aperture in the boss, where it is fitted with an adjusting-nut. In the form shown in Figs. 5, 6, and 7, the inner end of a spring is supported by a block 5<1> fixed to a metal plate 6' formed with two sets of opposite projections a, band c, d. The springs are inserted from the interior of the wheel through apertures 8 in a sunk portion 7' of the rim, and the plates secured in the manner of a bayonet-joint. Alternatively, the plates may be screwed in the apertures. In the form shown in Fig. 4, a helical spring 10 of tubular wire is arranged circumferentially inside a cover, and spaced from the rim at 11.
