Abstract

7991. Murphy, G. J. May 29. Spring wheels with continuous outer resilient suspension ring.-The outer rim, consisting of a circumferential helical spring 13, the convolutions of which may be shaped as shown in Fig. 2 to present a thickened flanged tread, is connected by two series of links 14 to arms 19 on two annular series of coiled springs 16. The springs are held on axes 17 under flanges on an inner rim 12, and they have inner arms 20 adjustable to vary the tension by means of set-screws 21 carried in rings 22. The rings are relatively and transversely adjustable by means of oppositely screwed rods 23 geared together by pinions and a rack 33. The outer rim is connected also to the inner rim by tangential links 50, the inner ends of which are secured to arms on transverse coiled springs 52. The other ends of these springs are extended at 55 and engaged by radial adjusting-bolts 57 passing through the inner rim.
