Abstract

117,129. Garver, J. L. July 5, 1917. Spring wheels with continuous outerl rigid ring and helical and volute springs.-The rigid wheel centre 3 is supported by lugs 23, 33, 43, 53 between pairs of arms 25, 26 - - 55, 56 formed respectively on a pair of spiders 15 keyed to the axle 12 and on an intermediate spider 16 loose on the axle, the spiders being maintained in position by two sets of circumferentially arranged compression springs 17. The springs are adapted to hold the wheel and axle concentric under normal load, and any relative radial or circumferential displacement affects all the springs equally. The lugs 23 &c. are shaped so as to prevent undue separation from the arms 25, 26, &c., and, to prevent chattering, leaf springs 18 may be fitted between these parts.
