Dobbies. - In headmotions of the Holling- worth and Knowles type, the direct tension of the jack 29 is taken by an intermediate gear 32 mounted on the fixed pivot 22 of the vibrator lever and gearing with the vibrator gear 20, the gear 32 having recesses 34 for engagement with a stop 35, and carrying a crank-pin 33 for engagement with a link 31 pivoted to the jack and acted upon by a compression spring 39 so as to hold the gear 32 past the dead-centres and against the stop 35. The vibrator gear 20 is moved through more than 180 degrees by the cylinder gears 12, 13, but is brought back into correct meshing position in virtue of its planetary motions around the gear 32. The vibrator gears may be set by any suitable mechanism, such as that shown, comprising slots 23, three-armed levers 25, rods 28, and indicator levers 27.
