A shuttleless loom comprises a slay 4 pivotable about an axis 8 at or adjacent its lower end and two opposed needles 37, one for introducing a weft thread as far as the halfway point of the shed and the other needle 37 (Fig. 3) for picking up the thread and drawing it into the other half of the shed, each needle being oscillatable axially by a ribbon 38 which is attached at one end to the needle and at the other end to an arm 56 mounted on a shaft 57 which is perpendicular to the plane of and passes through the centre of curvature of, an arcuate ribbon guide 41/42 integral with and in the plane of the slay, the shaft 57 being oscillated synchronously with the slay through a transmission connecting it to a rotary shaft 12 of the loom. Each transmission comprises a primary lever 63, a connecting rod 66 to an intermediate arm 67 connected by a further connecting rod to an arm secured to the shaft 57. The two levers 63 are secured to the ends of a resilient shaft 65 and are oscillated by rotation of a crankshaft 12, which is connected by links 13, 14 to the slay, and has a pair of opposed cams 61, 61A engaging respective rollers 62 mounted on the levers 63 on opposite sides of the crankshaft axis, the resilience of the shaft 65 ensuring that the cams maintain engagement with the rollers 62.
