Loom change - box motions; picking-mechanism.- The pattern cylinder 10, for controlling the picking and box mechanism, is secured to a sleeve 9 which may be mounted upon the shaft 1 of an ordinary dobby. The sleeve carries a star-wheel 8, which is driven by a pin-wheel 6 secured to a countersbaft 4, driven from the shaft 1 by means of toothed gearing 3, 5. A lever 11, actuated by the pattern pegs 21, is connected by a rod 13 to a lever 12 which is pivoted to a cam-actuated lever 15. The lower end of the rod 13 is slotted, and rides upon a pin 22, on the lever 12, which is provided with a pin or projection 19 bearing against the lower end of the rod 13. A rod 16 connects the lever 12 to the picking-mechanism. When the lever 11 is not acted upon by a peg 21, the projection 19 bears against the rod 13, and the levers 12, 15 move as one lever and raise the rod 16, as shown in Fig. 5, but, when a peg acts upon the lever 11, the lever 12 is first raised so as to release the lower end of the rod 13 from engagement with the projection 19, and then the lever 15 is raised by the cam, shown in Fig. 4, thus causing the lever 12 to oscillate about its fulcrum 22, and depress the rod 16. The connections between the pattern cylinder and box motion are of the ordinary kind. The mechanism is applicable to box motions of the kind described in Specification No. 8773, A.D. 1888. The shuttle is picked from either side of the loom, according to the action of the above-described mechanism, and then to and fro a number of times determined by the gear-ratios of the wheels 3, 5, 6, 8.
