Abstract

15,859. Jamieson, A., Blair, D., and Cleland, G. July 3. Loom shedding, take - up, change - box, and picking motions. -Relates to looms for figured fabrics. such as leno or Madras muslins or tapestries, in which patterns are worked with either one, two, or more shuttles in different parts of the cloth. The gauze reed a' is operated for shedding purposes by an arm a on a shaft A, which is rocked by another arm A' having a roller A<3> to engage with a cam A<4> on the firstmotion shaft. The roller A<3> is normally pressed by springs to one side of the cam A<4>, but it is brought into engagement with it by a lever b operated by the box lever B' when the fine shuttle is in operation. If it is desired to keep the gauze reed lifting every shot, the box lever B<1> is held in position by a rod f which is mounted on a longitudinal spindle f and put in and out of action by connections from the jacquard. As the take-up motion is only required to act when the gauze weaving is being produced, the operating-pawl c is connected by a bell-crank lever c<1> and link c<2> to another arm c<3> on the shaft A. The change-box motion is actuated by either of two cams C, C' on the stud C<2>, according as two or three shuttles are in operation, and the change from one to the other is effected by connections from the jacquard. Two picking-cams are mounted on the same stud C<2>, and the change from one to the other is effected in a similar manner by connections g<3> from the jacquard ; the lever F<3> communicates motion to the picking-shaft G by means of a slotted arm F<4>, a horizontal lever pivoted at the centre of the loom, and forks F<6>, The guide-reed D is reciprocated longitudinally by a spring and connections D<5>, D<3>, D<2>, D<1> from one of the picking-forks. The jacquard shedding-motion, when either two or three shuttles are to be employed, is put into action by rods d, d' having heads d' to engage with slotted plates d<3>, d<4>, which receive an up and down motion from cams d<5>, d<6> on the second-motion shaft C<5>. The change from one to the other is effected by rollers and crank mechanism mounted on the bracket e<6> and operated from a wheel e<3> on the first-motion shaft. This mechanism can be put out of action automatically by a clutch i operated by a vertical rod i<1> and forked arm i<2> from the box lever B'.
