Abstract

17,135. Hattersley, R. L., and Jackson, S. Aug. 24. L o o m change - box motions.-In shuttle-box mechanism of the kind described in Specification No. 8773, A.D. 1888, in which toothed crankwheels 14, Fig. 1, for operating the boxes through differential levers 7 are driven by supplementary gear - wheels 3 put into gear with one of the segment-wheels 1, 11 by pattern mechanism, the wheels 14 are provided with a nose 13 to engage with a fixed pin 15, 16 at the end of each of its two operations. One segment-wheel 1 is rigidly mounted on the crank shaft 2, and the other 11 is driven from it by toothed gearing 9, 10. The rods 8 for connecting the crank-wheels to the differential levers are acted upon by spring-actuated. levers 22. The differential levers are connected to the shuttle boxes 17 by a rod, such as 18, and a lever 19. The shuttle boxes at the other side of the loom are operated by similar mechanism connected by a rod 31 and arm 32 to the transverse shaft 30. The shuttle boxes at either side may be operated by treadles 25, one of which is connected by a rod 27 to the lever 19, and the other by a rod 33 and an arm to the shaft 30. A spring 29 around the rod 18 permits the lever 19 to he so moved. Loom let - off motions ; reversing - mechanism.- Worm let-off mechanism working in combination with a hinged back-rail, as described in Specification No. 1557, A.D. 1894, is more accurately controlled when lagging back by means of a supplementary lever 36, Fig. 3, fulcrumed on and working in connection with the lever for regulating the position of the curved plate 33 of the ratchet mechanism for operating the warp beam. One arm of the supplementary lever is connected by a rod 34 to the curved plate, and the other by a rod 40 and arms 42, 43 to the lagging rod 39. This rod has three positions 44, 45, 46 ; when at 44 or 45 the lever 36 is so arranged that the position of the curved plate is the same as described in the previous Specification, but when at 46, with the dobby and other motions reversed, the parts are moved to the positions shown in dotted lines and the pawl 50 is immediately put into contact with the ratchet-wheel 51, instead of being put into contact automatically after one or two operations of the loom.
