Change-box motions.-The star-wheel 7, Figs. 1 and 4, on the sleeve 4 carrying the drop-box pattern cylinder 5 is driven at times by a continuously-rotating pin-wheel 33 splined on a sleeve 21 driven from a gear 37, and at other times by a pin-wheel 34, Figs. 1, 4, and 5, which is rocked first in one direction and then in the other by means of a segmental gear 43 oscillated by a connecting-rod 41 and crank-pin 40 on a gear 38 driven from the gear 37. The pin-wheels 33, 34 are caused to slide along the sleeve 21 by yokeshaped arms 31, 32 on a sliding rod 30 actuated by lever mechanism 27, 26 and an indicator lever 25 controlled by a multiplier pattern surface 9. When the pin-wheel 33 is in gear with the starwheel 7, the pattern cylinder 5 is moved forwards pick by pick, but, when the pin-wheel 33 is in gear with the star-wheel 7, the pattern cylinder 5 is rocked so as to bring two bars of the pattern chain into action alternately. The drop-box pattern surface controls an indicator lever 11 connected by lever mechanism 13, 14 to a slidable rod 18 provided with a yoke-shaped arm 19 engaging a pin-wheel 20, which is thereby moved into or out of gear with a star-wheel 10 on a sleeve 8<1> carrying the multiplier cylinder 8. The pin-wheel 20 may be provided with either one or two pins, so that the cylinder 8 may be moved every pick or only every two picks.
