Breech actions, sliding breech-block. - Consists in arranging the breech-block W of a gun to abut against a surface S so inclined to the axis of the barrel that, during the very high pressure following the discharge, the two engaging surfaces adhere and hold the breechblock immovable, but when the pressure has dropped, after the projectile has left the barrel, the breech-block will slide on the inclined abutment and open the breech. The abutment S may be a plane surface as shown in Fig. 2, or cylindrical as shown in Figs. 3 and 4. Specifications 2687/94 and 18,363/10 are referred to.
