Ordnance design.- Relates to smooth-bore guns, and consists in mechanical means, actuated by the propelling gases, for rotating the projectile as it moves forwards in the gun. In the construction shown, a cylinder 11 formed in the wall of the gun 2 is connected by a conduit 17 with the powder-chamber. A piston 14 in the cylinder is connected to a pawl 6, which engages with teeth 5 on the projectile 4. On discharge, the gases act on the piston, and the pawl 6 rotates the forwardly-moving projectile.
