Abstract

4670. Vacheron, [nÚe Besnard], A. G. M. Feb. 24, 1913, [Convention date]. Void. [Published under Section 91 of the Act.] Movable-abutment type; working-fluid supply. -Relates to rotary engines having annular cylinders formed in two sections, one section being stationary and the other forming part of the rotor. In a multi-cylinder internal-combustion engine arranged on a shaft a<8>, each annular cylinder a is formed by a rotor part a<1> carrying a packed vane a<2> and a stator part b<1> housing an outwardly-sliding abutment c. Each cylinder in turn is supplied with a compressed charge by a pump d suitably geared to the shaft a<8>. The pump draws in the gases through ports e<2> in a rotary tubular valve e geared to the shaft a<8>, and delivers the compressed charges through ports e<3> in the valve e on the other side of a partition e'. The valve e supplies the inlet ports b<8> of the cylinders in turn through ports e<4>. Ignition is effected by sparking-plugs b<3>, and exhaust takes place through ports b<2>. The abutments c are lifted out of the path of the vanes a<2> by mutilated bevel or spur gears on the rotating valve e, which gears actuate pinions c<5> engaging racks c<4> secured to the abutments. The abutments are returned by springs c<6>. The line dividing each cylinder into two sections may be radial instead of parallel to the shaft.
