Abstract
21,839. Jones, E. G., and Patchel, T. T. Sept. 27. Oppositely-running rotor type.-A hollow rotor 6 is mounted upon a hollow shaft 4. A large concentric rotor 10 is similarly mounted upon a hollow shaft 5. Ports 7, 11 are provided in the shafts 4, 5 respectively so that steam can be admitted through pipes 26 to the interiors of the rotors. The rotor 6 is provided with nozzles 8 and buckets 9. The rotor 10 is provided with nozzles 12 and buckets 13 on its interior surface and with nozzles 14 and buckets 15 on its exterior surface. Surrounding the outer rotor is a stationary steam-ring 16 provided with nozzles 19 and supplied with steam through a pipe 18. The outer casing 1 is provided with an exhaust pipe 20. Steam is admitted simultaneously by the pipes 26, 18, and issues from the nozzles 8, 12, 14, 19, the reaction effect causing the rotor 6 to rotate clockwise aud the rotor 10 to rotate anti-clockwise. The steam escapes sideways out of the buckets and exhausts through the conduit 20. Power is taken off the shafts 4, 5 by pulleys 27.
