Movable-abutment type; cooling parts; packing abutments; working - fluid supply. - In a rotary internal-combustion engine, an outwardlysliding abutment comprises a piston g which draws a charge through a pipe i past a flap valve into a cylinder h, where, on the downstroke of the piston g, the charge is compressed. The pressure forces down a spring-controlled slide k, Fig. 3, thereby pressing a hinged packing-vane l against the rotor band allowing the charge to enter a passage s in the abutment. Further inward motion of the abutment, Fig. 4, connects the passage s with the working-chamber behind the rotor vane, and closes the slide k so that the pump cylinder is cut off from the passage s. Ignition is effected by a sparking-plug m, and the exhaust gases escape by a passage n. The abutment g is suitably operated by rods f having rollers e bearing on cams d on the rotor shaft a. The casing c surrounds only a small part of the rotor which acts as a fan to assist cooling.
