12,646. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. May 30. Methods of sighting.-Consists in a portable sight-setting apparatus for use by an observer at a position contiguous to the gun-mounting. The apparatus shown in Fig. 1 is adapted to be clamped by a screw A<3> to the wheel of a field carriage, and comprises a handle A', and gearing a, a<1>, for operating the elevation or deflexion gear of the sights through a disconnectible flexible shaft. Two operating-gears may be provided in one apparatus, so that the sights may be adjusted for both elevation and deflexion by the same apparatus. The apparatus may be carried by a strap round the observer's waist. The Provisional Specification also states that the connexion between the instrument and the gun sights may be electrical.
