Abstract

11,027. Miller, F. May 9. Driving-gear; revolving-cylinder and reciprocating-piston type ; engines with main shaft parallel to axis of cylinder.-In internal-combustion and other fluid-pressure engines in which parallel cylinders are arranged on both sides of a central driving-cam, the pistons move simultaneously both awav from or towards the central driving-member. A two-stroke-cycle engine having terminal ports and stationary or revolving cylinders with annular pistons 4, 4<1> is shown in Fig. 1, the pistons carrying rollers 2 which engage a central cam 1. A modification is described in which the piston rollers engage a recess cut in the periphery of the cam, and in a further modification, the bases of the pistons have undulations similar to those on the cam, ball bearings being interposed between the working faces. In the modification shown in Fig. 6, undulations 16 on the pistons engage rollers 18 carried by a member 1<2> secured to the central shaft. In either of the abovedescribed constructions, each of the annular cylinders may be replaced by two or more parallel cylinders which are displaced, relatively to those on the opposite side of the driving- cam, by one-half an undulation.
