Abstract

19,787. Crayssac, D. Aug. 24. Four-stroke-cycle engines; driving-gear.-In a stationary or revolving aeronautical or other engine, having pairs of cylinders arranged as shown in Fig. 1, and with pistons driving through pin-and-slot mechanism, wear of the guides and brasses is taken up automatically by a series of connecting-plates which embrace the crank - pin and are free to slide one within another. Located between the pistons, Fig. 1, are four connecting-plates 16, 21, slots 26 in which engage guides 10 supporting ball-bearings, which bear on a guide block 9. The outside plates 16 are connected to the upper pistons and the inner plates 21, which are free to slide in the outer plates, to the lower pistons 14, 15, the free ends of the plates being clear of the piston faces. By maintaining pressure simultaneously in one of the upper and lower cylinders, knocking is prevented.
