Abstract
446,873. Driving - gear for radial - cylinder engines. NILSSON, N. U., 2, Liding÷, Ulfsborg, Sweden. July 27, 1935, No. 21394. [Class 7 (ii)] In a radial-cylinder engine two or more pairs of pistons 7 drive on a cam track 25 through rollers 24 which are kept in contact with the track, by spring-operated telescopic rods 27 extending between them. The track 25 is preferably elliptical. The pairs of cylinders have combustion chambers 2b, 3b, and rotate, with a valve member 17, on a shaft 9, 9 ; the member 17 has ports co-operating with inlet and exhaust pipes 15, 16 and arranged so that the engine works on the four-stroke cycle. The cylinders may be stationary, the cam-track then being mounted to revolve. An annular flange 4 may extend around the engine and contact, with packing, on an outer casing, the outer compartment, thus formed, being filled with lubricant. As modified in Fig. 6, cranked gudgeon-pins 37 extend from the pistons through slots in the cylinders and carry rollers 24 bearing on a cam track 40. The gudgeons are connected by telescopic rods 27 7 extending through further slots in the cylinders. The valve comprises a disc 11 in which is mounted a sparking plug 45 co-operating with ports in the member 1 at the moment of ignition. If the engine comprises four pairs of cylinders, they are arranged at an angle of 45‹ to one another.
