The engine has eight cylinders A, Figs. 1 and 2, arranged in two sets of four and formed in a casing B surrounded by a ring P'. Each cylinder contains a piston E acting on a fixed crank F, Fig. 7, and connected to it by a tapering sleeve K<1>. The sleeves are arranged on a sleeve L' which tapers towards both ends, and they are packed at the ends by spring packing N' which compensates for wear. The steam-chest I can be adjusted on the fixed shaft C by means of a nut y, and has flanges R working in packed grooves in a ported plate P, so that the plate is pressed against the admission and reversing valve K, Fig. 5, and the valve is kept in contact with the revolving casing. The valve has an admission port B' with lateral grooves which prolong the period of admission, and an exhaust port E', these ports working in connection with passages D' in the casing.
