Abstract
8388. Zyl, J. J. van. April 9. Couplings, automatic, of the drop-pin hollowbuffer type in which the pin is carried by a pivoted lever which, upon impact, is released to allow the pin to fall into engagement with a link carried by the opposing buffer. The lever is formed with an arm S adapted to cooperate with the end b of a pawl F pivoted at P to a bracket upon the buffer. When set for coupling, the lever is held by the pawl, as shown on the left of the Figure, with the pin I raised. Upon impact, the buffer is pressed rearwards, and the end a of the pawl engages a collar C fixed upon the vehicle frame, whereupon the end b is lowered, releasing the lever and the pin I.
