Abstract

29,170. Wegner, C. Dec. 21. No Patent granted (Sealingfee not paid). Couplings, automatic.-Relates to a coupling of the type in which a two-part link may be raised from the side of the vehicle and retained in position for coupling automatically with a fixed hook upon the opposing vehicle, and which may be released from that position by the compression of the buffers, means being also provided for tightening the draw-gear. A link 1, 1<1> is pivoted at 31 to a forked carrier 3, and may be raised from the side of the vehicle by a cranked rod 7 having a fork at its inner end which embraces the link, the rigidity of the link being maintained by the engagement of a tail-piece 5 on the front part 1 with a cross-piece 6 on the rear part 1<1>. The link is retained in position for automatic coupling by the engagement of the rod 7 with an arm 28 at the lower end of a lever 27 pivoted at 26, the upper end of the lever being connected by a rod 25 to one end of an horizontal lever 24, pivoted at 23, and having at its opposite end a sliding rod 22 adapted to contact with an auxiliary buffer 20 upon the opposing vehicle. In modifications, the auxiliary buffer may be dispensed with, the rod 22 being arranged to engage the usual side buffers ; or the lever 27 may be provided with a weighted arm for returning it to its normal position. Draw-gear.-The forked carrier 3 is mounted upon a screwed sleeve 4, which is movable upon the shank of the hook 2 and is connected to bevelgearing 10, 12 adapted to be operated by a handle 14 at the side of the vehicle for tightening the coupling.
